Welcome to the Thursday Night Flight Club Pilot Briefing for: Exploring the Upper North. This flight is week three planned for February 20, 2025. Departing from Kodiak Benny Benson State Airport in Kodiak, Alaska at zero one one five zulu time, pilots will fly to Edward G. Pitka Senior Airport located in Galena, Alaska. Arriving at Pitka Senior airport will be a test of skill and nerves as the runway length is merely six thousand feet. The airport does provide R-nav approaches to both runways eight and twenty six. Our flight operations center suggests flying appropriate aircraft such as the seven three seven six hundred or seven hundred series. If pilots are feeling daring, you may attempt your approach in a larger airframe. If pilots attempt the approach in a larger airframe, we do strongly encourage a change for departure. After a twenty minute layover to deplane, refuel and boarding of new passengers, pilots will depart for the second leg of the flight from Galena, Alaska to Wiley Post-Will Rogers Memorial Airport in Utqiagvik, Alaska. Runway eight and two six offer a grooved surface with a length of seven thousand one hundred feet and cat two instrument landing systems.
